This new single origin from Indonesia absolutely slaps. Anaerobic natural processing has allowed this one to generate some super exciting flavours - we got big juicy blueberry, nectarine and caramel, it’s got funk this one.

For this processing method, the coffee cherry is left on the bean and sealed in a container without oxygen so that the fermentation process is sped up, it brings out all the boozy, funky flavours that drift through this coffee, making it one of those mugs that leaves you sitting on the porch contemplating the great mysteries of life, like how did this delicious drink get into my cup?

More info

Here’s the bit where we tell you about the temperate coffee region and growing information. So yeah, they grow coffee in Indonesia. So what makes this one special? There’s a couple things really. It comes from East Java and is grown on the side of the Argopuro Volcano. But there’s been a push in this region to grow more diverse varieties of coffee, and to start playing with different processing methods. It’s largely thanks to Pak Muhlisin, who founded the Pokmas Walida Cooperative in 2014.

Like we said up top, this one has undergone a anaerobic fermentation process which has resulted in a really funky fruit note in the background of this coffee - which we love.

However, this coffee cooperative is doing a lot for the local communities, which we dig too. The main thing is expanding education to community members on farming and processing methods, and the coop contributes 20% of coffee sales to build and improve a school system to help cultivate a future of educated coffee producers.

If you’ve drunk Indonesian coffees before and have grown to expect a dark earthy cup of coffee, then this one is going to be quite a surprise. Turns out Muhlisin is shaking Indo coffee up.
